Programmatic Areas

When it started out, after its registration, it had no idea of how an NGO functions. Since the Secretary's relatives reside in Dharampur, which is about 70 kms from Deoria, he used to visit them quite often. Being a water-logged area, a number of children were afflicted by encephalitis and a high rate of child mortality was registered. While addressing this issue, he came in touch with Uttar Pradesh Voluntary Health Association (UPVHA). Owing to the prompting of LIPVHA and his own sensitivity towards the needs of the area, he shifted his base to Dharampur. Intervention on this issue continued till 1997 for which he was paid Rs.1500/-. It was in 1997 that he participated in Training of Trainers, organised by Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra, Lucknow and also joined the Literacy Campaign. SAMADHAN He was paid Rs. 15,000/- for his intervention in the Literacy Campaign. In 2001, he received funding support from CAPART, Lucknow for intervening in the area of empowerment of Dalit women. But further funding was not renewed. In between, the organisation had also done a lot of work for the rehabilitation of the victims of the flood that had struck Gorakhpur, an adjoining district. All this enabled it to obtain funding support under the aegis of Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) programme in 1992 under the lead agency Sahbhagi Shikshan Kendra to intervene in the area of strengthening Panchayati Raj Institutions. Its preset programmatic areas are : 1. Women Empowerment 2. Health Enhancement 3. Strengthening Panchayati Raj Institutions 4. Communal Harmony Besides, it also provides relief to victims 1 of disaster as and when disasters strike.
